National Eye Health Week (22-28 September 2025)
This National Eye Health Week, we're encouraging everyone to prioritise regular eye exams and personal eyecare, not only to keep your vision sharp, but to support your general health and wellbeing.

Each September, National Eye Health Week highlights the importance of protecting and maintaining good vision. The public health campaign, led by Eye Health UK in partnership with Vision Matters, aims to raise awareness to the necessity of regular eye exams whilst inspiring individuals to take proactive steps to protect their vision.
Our eyesight plays a fundamental role in our everyday lives. It is vital for learning and development, contributes to our mental health, supports our independence as we age, and can reveal underlying health conditions that might otherwise go undetected. Like any other part of the body, our eyes change over time; therefore, taking care of them and attending regular eye exams is essential.
Maintaining healthy eyes requires a combination of regular eye exams and consistent lifestyle habits. Simple lifestyle choices, such as eating a balanced diet, protection from harmful UV rays, taking regular breaks from screens, and staying physically active, can significantly support eye health between appointments. When paired with routine eye exams, these habits offer the best foundation for preserving vision and keeping your eyes in optimal condition.
Yearly eye exams provide you with much more than an extended understanding of your eyes. Regular eye exams can detect health conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration in their infancy, which allows for early intervention and increases the chances of successful treatment. They can also identify general health issues such as diabetes or high blood pressure, and help reduce headaches, eyestrain, and other symptoms of visual fatigue.
Maintaining healthy eyes should be a top priority for everyone. Don’t take your eyes for granted; take proactive steps to keep them healthy and vibrant.
