Lenses
Our dispensing team will help you choose the right lenses.
When choosing a new pair of glasses, our dispensing opticians will advise the best pair of lenses for your prescription and requirements. There are many different types of lenses available from many suppliers, and our Matlock branch prides themselves in being a Zeiss specialist practice.
Single Vision
A single vision lens has one prescription evenly distributed across the lens and is commonly used to correct vision for short-sight and long-sight.
Bifocal
A bifocal lens contains two lens powers to ensure the user can see object at different distances. A bifocal has a segment towards the bottom of the lens that is an increased power for near vision.
Varifocal
A varifocal lens is recommended for presbyopia. These lenses gradually change in power from the top of the lens to the bottom, providing different viewing distances in one pair of glasses.
Occupational
An occupational lens is recommended for maximising your vision at working distance and relieve the strain on your eyes from near tasks such as working at a computer, reading music and more.
Myopia Control
A new lens was introduced in 2021 that has been designed to reduce the progression rate of myopia. The MiYOSMART lens is a single vision, polycarbonate lens that utilises Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segment technology to provide vision correct and myopic defocus simultaneously. A 3-year clinical trial shows that the lenses are proven to reduce the progression of myopia by up to 60%. These lenses are only available at our Matlock practice.
Polarised
Polarised sunglasses are designed to reduce glare from the sun and reflective surfaces. They are a popular choice for those who enjoy outdoor sports including water sports such as fishing and are incredibly useful when driving.
Extras
- Anti-reflective coatings provide clear vision by reducing glare and reflections from artificial lighting, and protect lenses from dirt, dust and scratches.
- A blue light coating reduces the amount of blue light from screens and devices reaching the eye, providing comfort and protection to the user.
- Photochromic, or transitions lenses are a type of lens that goes darker when UV is present. These lenses provide 100% protection from UV and are available in a range of colours.
