Brand of the Month - Eco

Eco is one of our favourite eyewear brands, not only for their diverse range of eyewear styles but also because of the way the produce their products and give back to the planet.

Eco’s beautiful range of glasses and sunglasses are made from a range of environmentally friendly materials such as acetate made from castor seeds, recycled metal, and most recently recycled ocean plastics! Eco has teamed up with Waste FREE Oceans a non-government organisation that works with local fishermen collecting used fishing nets, ropes, and trawls from the ocean. These materials go to a processing centre where they are sorted, cleaned, shredded, and prepped. Once the material is prepped, pigment and stabiliser are added, and it is then extruded into plastic granules ready to be moulded into a fantastic pair of specs! On top of their eyewear being made from recycled materials, Eco also use recycled PET and paper for the packaging.

Eco have made a name for themselves, not just with their eyewear but also the way in which they give back to the planet. Another NGO Eco works with is Trees for the Future, and for every frame purchased a tree is planted. These trees not only give back to our planet but also offer communities food, income, empowerment, leadership, and education. Alongside this Eco have also organised beach clean ups, to help remove plastic waste from coastlines in America, Italy, and Greece!

In the last few years, Eco have been awarded three of the most competitive awards in the world. In 2020 the brand won the iF Design Award – Gold, and the EyeVote Readers’ Choice Award for their Social Purpose Mission and in 2021 Eco was selected as the German Design Award winner and Seventeen Magazine’s Best Eyewear Brand in their Sustainable Style Awards.
